Yay! Magia have just finished blocking!
This marks the end of five weeks of Mystery Knit Along. Time went by so quickly but I had a lot of fun watching unfold this mystery shawl Laura Nelkin dreamed for us! Being part of this also meant chatting on Ravelry with a great group of ladies, all helpful and fun to knit alongside.
This magic shawl started with the exterior border. Then we picked up stitches along it and knit the central panel. Using the left over picked up stitches and the newly ones picked up along the side of the central panel, we knitted the lace part that would connect the central panel and the border. Finally, the same was done for the second side and bind-off was made using a beaded lace technique. Magic!
I seem to have a history with tweaking patterns. So just for a change and because I felt the border needed something more, I changed the end a bit. It wouldn’t be me if I didn’t! 😉
The alterations are minor. I just added a plain purl row and “yarn over, k2tog” row. I feel these simple rows added just the finish I was looking for before the bind-off. The lace beaded bind-off looks so chic. It’s a very nice final touch for this shawl.
The blocking made the final pice grow A LOT. I started with a small sized shawl and ended up with a huge one capable of covering my whole arms! I admit I did have to pull on it quiet a lot for it to have this shape. It wasn’t very cooperative and didn’t seem to want to stay straight. Well, at least it didn’t break!
I’m now the happy owner of a beautiful and soft (cashmere, anyone?) shawl. I’ll be wearing it a lot!
